A disappointing afternoon for Boro and their amazing following. Many arrived at the home of Wingate full of hope after last Saturday’s demolition of Brightlingsea Regent however not many would have expected the home side to be so durable and difficult to break down. If truth be told they set their stall out early to get as many men behind the ball and hope to catch Boro on the break. That is exactly how events unfolded as Boro with much possession ceded to them by the retreating Wingate side created almost nothing of note and the best chance of a very drab first half fell to Mendy of Wingate who blasted over from short range . Very little changed after the halftime break on a sweltering afternoon that seemed to sap the energy of the Boro players . Boro sought to exert a little more pressure however all to no avail as the strong Wingate rear guard held firm. Boro were eventually undone as a long clearance fell to Kennedy who outpaced the Boro defence and slotted past Pajetat on 74 minutes. Two minutes later Wingate were awarded a penalty after a seemingly good challenge by Pajetat was deemed to be player first and ball second. As Pajetat protested Wingate were arguing amongst themselves as to who was to take the resultant kick and after a short period up stepped Cronin who’s kick was well saved by Pajetat. The hoped for surge by Boro didn’t actually materialise and as Wingate used their experience to run the clock down , Solomou did have Boro’s only effort on 93 minutes but Gore tipped over and so went Boro’s 100% start to the season . Hoping that the boys can put this behind them on Saturday as East Thurrock are our opponents at the CVS Van Hire Stadium 3 pm ko
