Boro’s pre season campaign has got off to a decent start against worthwhile opposition .
Last Saturday Romford turned up determined to beat their higher ranked opponents and duly did so with an impressive 2-1 victory . The rustiness of our boys clearly on show as we succumbed to a 2-1 defeat , a goal in each half for the visitors and a consolation penalty by the gift from the Gods George Aresti putting a slightly better gloss on the result . The performance was not great but what was fantastic was to see you all back at the Boro with a really healthy crowd in good voice and a reminder of what we have missed for so any months .
Tuesday night was better as we ran in 4 goals against a rather depleted Royston Town side who had to arrive with a number of first team players missing after precautionary covid isolation measures taken by many of their squad . Fair play and all credit to them for bringing a young side and fulfilling the fixture , this is why we always look to have a game with Royston pre season and why we are happy to call them our friends . The fitness levels of the boys were visibly improved on the previous match and a couple of good appearances from some fringe players shows the strength in depth we have .
This will be tested on Saturday when we welcome Chelmsford City of the National League South , a great fixture for us and one where we hope many will attend as we are sure it will be competitive and good value .
