A poor first half display put paid to any hopes Boro had of getting a result last Saturday . After an uneventful opening 20 minutes where neither side created much the game sprung to life as Solomou on 24 minutes received the ball after some intricate play down the left side and cut inside to cooly slot past Giddens in the Rocks goal. This seemed to galvanise a previously quiet Rocks side and within 9 minutes they had equalised after Carro could only partially save a header which left an easy tap in for Foxley at the far post. Worse was to come for Boro as Nasha having evaded an Aresti challenge blasted the ball past Carro in the 41st minute. Any hopes of a recovery were dented further only 5 minutes later as some poor marking enabled Merrifield to head home from close range. 3-1 to the home side at half time and the expected Boro push to get back into the game did not materialise. In fact it was the home side who added to the scoring on 61 minutes when Gilbey was free at the far post after yet more uncertain defending . Boro did up their game whilst the Rocks took their foot off the pedal and on 81 Onokwai shot past Giddens to give some respectability to the scoreline but in truth far too little far too late and any hopes Boro have of mounting any sort of promotion push will be sorely tested in the weeks to come. Such abject performances will not gain many points so much to ponder for the Boro coaching staff. Injuries are a factor that all teams have to contend with and injuries alone cannot be used as an excuse for such performances and the numerous travelling fans were badly let down . Lets us all look forward and hope for a more inspired performance next Saturday away to Potters Bar .
