Only the fates appear able to stop the Boro juggernaut as yet again a win was in sight which would have been the 5th in a row with a maximum 15 points garnered since the FA Cup exit. After a drab first half when neither side created any chances of note and all square at halftime Boro looked the more purposeful from the getgo as the second half became a procession. One way traffic for the 20 minutes of play and some good chances were created and taken as Merstham felt the full force of the Boro strike threat. With Akinwande and Mckenzie leading the line and Nouble on one side with the overlapping Olufemi on the other Boro were proving difficult to contain , Barker pulling the strings in the middle and Coby Rowe covering every blade of synthetic grass.
Joe Staunton’s has in the last few games demonstrated a side to his game no one has seen in 18 months as he timed his run to perfection on 51 minutes to meet an O’donoghue cut back and slam the ball into the roof of the net. His second goal in two games after his disallowed effort in the FA cup. Next up on 53 minutes Nouble burst past the visiting defence to set up Chinedu Mckenzie ( pictured )who swivelled and shot home despite the efforts of a defender to clear the ball once it had crossed the line. Boro were now in cruise control and it seemed a matter of time before the next goal was to arrive. However on 65 minutes an area power cut saved Merstham and has give them them the opportunity to return on 29 December at 3 pm and start all square again. Much to the annoyance of a certain member of the Merstham coaching staff who was overheard uttering some non too complimentary things about our Club. Well that’s the team talk done Merry Christmas see you on the 29th !!
